Why LéShay Candles Exist: The Story Behind the Coconut Apricot Blend
In 2013, Leslie founded LéShay Candles, but the decision that made it possible came earlier. She had already left her corporate career to care for her newborn son, who was born with disabilities requiring multiple surgeries and round-the-clock care. That decision, made without a business plan, simply out of necessity, was what freed her to build something new when the moment for it came.
There was no business plan in that decision. There was a mother, a son who needed her, and a season that asked for more faith than certainty. Through every surgery and every uncertain outcome, that faith held. Her son's surgeries were successful, and what she describes simply as God's faithfulness carried the family through it.
A Small Comfort, and an Unexpected Problem
During that season, candles became one of Leslie's few small enjoyments, a quiet constant in days that held very little else that felt ordinary. But she began to notice something conventional candles did poorly. They burned unevenly. And her husband, already carrying the weight of that season alongside her, found that conventional wax and synthetic fragrance triggered his respiratory system.
One by one, the candles that filled other people's homes became things she had to remove from her own.
Most people would have simply stopped buying candles. Leslie went looking for a wax that would not compromise her family's health and could still hold fragrance the way a luxury candle should. She could not find one that met her standard. So she built it.
What the Problem Actually Required
A wax that burns clean is not difficult to find. A wax that burns clean, evenly, and still carries fragrance the way a discerning customer expects is a different problem entirely. Most non-toxic waxes soften on that second requirement. Scent throw weakens. Burn quality suffers.
The coconut apricot blend LéShay uses today exists because that trade-off was not acceptable. It combines coconut and apricot waxes with a small, carefully measured amount of refined food-grade paraffin, included only for stability and fragrance throw, in a formulation that remains primarily plant-based, biodegradable, and free of phthalates, sulfates, parabens, and dyes. Every fragrance oil selected for it is chosen with the same standard her husband's health first demanded: nothing added that shouldn't be there.
Be Still, and Know
Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." Leslie has said this verse shaped LéShay from the beginning, and it is easy to understand why. Stillness was not something that season offered freely. It had to be chosen, in waiting rooms and recovery rooms, long before it could be practiced in a quiet home.

A company built in that kind of season tends to carry its posture forward. Every batch LéShay hand pours in small quantities is still measured against the standard Leslie set when she had no customers, no brand, only a husband who needed a cleaner option, a son who needed her presence, and a conviction that excellence and faithfulness were never meant to be in conflict.
What This Means When You Choose LéShay
When you light a LéShay candle, you are not simply choosing a fragrance. You are choosing a formulation shaped by a mother's stillness in a genuinely difficult season, built under the conviction that doing something with excellence is itself an act of faith.
That is the standard behind the coconut apricot blend, the standard behind every batch poured since 2013, and the reason LéShay exists at all.
