Wax Melts VS. Candles: How to Choose the Right Format for Every Room
A well chosen fragrance deserves the right format. Candles and wax melts are both made with carefully selected fragrance oils, yet they differ in how you enjoy them. Knowing the difference helps you choose with intention.
How a Candle Releases Fragrance
A candle uses a flame. The flame warms the wax beneath it and creates a melt pool, and the fragrance oils rise from that pool into the air.
A candle also brings light. A small flame adds a visual detail that a wax melt cannot.
How a Wax Melt Releases Fragrance
A wax melt has no flame. Placed in a wax warmer, it softens gradually and releases fragrance into the room.
Each LéShay wax melt has a burn time of 8 to 12 hours. A vessel of 15 wax melts provides 120 to 180 hours in total, depending on the temperature of your warmer. Strength depends on the fragrance and the size of the room, not on the format alone. A wax melt can be every bit as strong as a candle.
One Fragrance, Two Formats
Both formats present a fragrance the same way. The top notes appear first, bright and immediate. The middle notes follow and form the body of the scent. The base notes arrive last and linger longest.

Every Room Is Yours to Choose
Candles and wax melts can be used in any room of the home. The entryway, living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and home office are all open to either format. The right choice is the one that suits you, your routine, and your household.
Three questions can guide you:
- Do you prefer to burn a flame, or would you rather have a flameless option?
- Do you want the light of a candle in the room?
- Do you want the long burn time of a wax melt? One vessel provides 120 to 180 hours.
When to Choose a Candle
- You prefer to burn a flame.
- You want the light of a flame.
- You want a finished object for a mantel, table, or shelf.
When to Choose a Wax Melt
- You prefer a flameless option.
- You have children, pets, or a space with limited surface area.
- You want a long burn time. One vessel provides 120 to 180 hours.
A Note on Craftsmanship
Every LéShay product is hand poured in small batches in the USA. Our luxury candles are made with a proprietary coconut apricot wax blend, and our luxury wax melts are made with coconut wax. Both feature premium fragrance oils formulated without phthalates, sulfates, parabens, or dyes. The format changes. The standard does not.
Candle Care
Follow these steps with every candle for a clean, even burn.
- Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each use to prevent soot and to extend the life of the candle.
- Always use a candle plate to protect surfaces from heat damage while burning.
- Do not burn your candle more than 4 hours during each use.
- Candles have a memory. Make sure there is a full melt pool across the entire top layer before extinguishing, to prevent tunneling.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Discontinue use when there is 1/4 inch of wax left in the jar.
- Keep the melt pool free from excess wick debris.
- If a mushroom carbon tip develops on the wick, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, and trim the wick to remove it.

Wax Melt Care
Before you begin. Place your wax warmer on a stable, heat resistant surface in a well ventilated area, away from curtains, fabrics, paper, and other flammable materials. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your wax warmer. Keep your wax warmer and wax melts away from children and pets.
How to use. Place one or more wax melts into the dish or reservoir of your wax warmer, according to the warmer manufacturer's recommended capacity. Activate your warmer and allow the wax to melt completely. Fragrance intensity will vary depending on the size of your space, the type of warmer, the temperature of the warmer, and the amount of wax being used. There is no need to add water, oils, or any other ingredients.
When the fragrance fades. When the wax is no longer releasing fragrance, it is time to replace it. Allow the wax to cool and solidify completely before removing it from your warmer. Never pour melted wax down a sink or drain, because it can harden inside plumbing and cause a blockage.
Getting the most from your wax melts.
- Start with less. Begin with one wax melt and add more only if your warmer allows and you desire a stronger fragrance.
- Allow the wax to melt fully so the fragrance disperses properly.
- Keep your warmer clean and free of residue.
- Store unused wax melts in their original packaging or another cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Enjoy each fragrance individually and avoid mixing fragrances.
Important safety information. Never leave a wax warmer unattended while it is operating. Do not touch melted wax, because hot wax can cause burns. Do not move a warmer while the wax is melted or while the warmer is hot. Do not add water to melted wax. Do not use a warmer if the warmer, cord, plug, or electrical components are damaged. Discontinue use if your warmer becomes unusually hot, produces smoke, or shows signs of electrical malfunction.
For Boutiques, Hotels, and Spas
Wax melts are a practical addition for spaces with flame restrictions, such as treatment rooms, guest suites, and retail displays. Candles remain a natural choice where a flame is permitted. Offering both lets customers choose the format that suits their home.
